Thanks
to everyone who made it out to the Sound Fix in-store 2 weeks
ago! We had a great time and we hope you did as well. For those
of you who weren't able to make it or just happen to live far
away, here are some photos of the event (some are Ian's and some
were taken by our friend Francisco Monar):

LAST
MINUTE SPECIAL EVENT! Barge Recordings and Sound
Fix Records are proud
to present an afternoon show that should not be missed. This
weekend, Saturday December 2nd at
2pm, Sound
Fix will host
Geoff Mullen, MGR and
Black Hand. The
performances will be held in the Fix Cafe which is connected
to Sound Fix Records and
is FREE to boot! So you can spend that extra cash on records
from the artists as well as beer and/or coffee. We can't think
of a better way to enjoy a Saturday afternoon. For details you
can call the nice folks at Sound
Fix Records - (718) 388-8090. Sound
Fix is
located at 110 Bedford Avenue(at 11th street) in Williamsburg,
Brooklyn, NY. These artists do not play live very often let alone
on the same bill....so you should not miss what promises to be
a memorable afternoon of heady soundscapes. See you there!
I
made a flyer for the occasion:

Hi
kids. Couple new reviews in the press section.
One from the November issue of The
Wire and one from the wonderful web-zine/label Foxy
Digitalis. As some of you may or may not know this past
week was CMJ time here in New York City. Though I normally try
to avoid CMJ like the plague, our good friend Mike Gallagher
aka MGR was doing a rare live performance for the Nuerot/Robotic
Empire night at Sin-e. Unfortunately I was just getting over
a minor case of food poisoning/stomach flu....so i wasn't in
the best of spirits, but Mike killed it that night and performed
20 minutes of what he does best....cinematic, spatial guitar
drones. Totally put my head in the right space. The (In)famous
Pitchfork Media even pricked up their jaded ears and happened
to mention Mike in their coverage of the CMJ weekend. You can
see that here.

Happy
Halloween everyone! In celebration of this totally
wicked holiday, The Fun Years have alerted Barge HQ that
some of their music has been featured in a Fuse
Music Television halloween ad. The piece is from an early
Fun Years self-released CD-R entitled Minimal Hardcore.

Hi
Folks! Couple of newsworthy items. First off, INNATURE will now
me available from Keith Fullerton Whitman's online music sales
site called Mimaroglu
Music Sales. Stop by the website and check 'em out....they
sell some great stuff. Secondly...the praise for INNATURE just
keeps rolling in. Here's a nice little review from the fine folks
at Fakejazz.com. And finally.....we mastered The Fun Years
record this past weekend with our friend Josh
Bonati. He
worked his usual magic and the record sounds fantastic! We are
so excited about this release and are hard at work putting together
the packaging and preparing it for human consumption. Stay Tuned!
10.03.2006
We have posted a little
photo "how to get the sleeve out of the wallet" here for
those of you who have purchased INNATURE and are having difficulty
getting the sleeve that houses the CD out of the main wallet.
Again we apologize for this inconvenience. We are taking measures
to address the issue and all product leaving Barge HQ will be packaged
with the sleeve free-floating in the wallet so that you my choose
to use the insert if you wish. We hope the "How
To" helps.
In other news....check
out some of the reviews INNATURE has been receiving in the press section
of the site. There will be reviews in the November issue of The
Wire, Signal
to Noise and Resonance as
well.

Hi everyone! BRG001/INNATURE
is finally released to the public. The street date was Tuesday
the 26th and should be available at your favorite record shop.
If they don't have it....tell them to order it! You can also order
direct from us on the catalog page
using a major credit card or Pay Pal. If that doesn't suit your
fancy It is available from CTD
Ltd., Forced
Exposure, Boomkat,
Ektro
Records, Aquarius
Records and Other
Music among
others. Dave and I are so happy about this record
finally coming to fruition and would like to publicly thank all
the artists who brought such fine music to the table...you are
the cat's pajamas! I also wanted to let everyone know that
we have had many comments not only about how great the line-up
and music is but about how difficult the insert is to get out.
We sincerely apologize about this slight production miscalculation.
We liken it to eating fine oysters....though difficult to open,
the rewards are well worth the effort...that is if you like oysters.
I will be posting a little pictorial "how to" in the coming days...we
hope this will be helpful to those with the good
sense and taste to purchase this compilation.
Anyway, now that INNATURE
is finally out we can turn a bit of our attention to BRG 002 which
will be a full-length from the incredible Fun Years. We have the
final mixes in-house and are sorting out all the fun production
stuff that goes into making records....and when I say FUN...I'm
not being sarcastic. Dave and I live for this....just ask my wonderfully
patient and forgiving wife.
09.16.2006
We
are pleased to announce that Barge Recordings products will now
be available from Forced
Exposure. FE is one of the finest distributors of
left ear leaning music in the US and we couldn't be happier about
our new relationship. Please visit their website and
have a look at what they offer.
In other news, INNATURE
will be available from the fine folks at Aquarius
Records in San Francisco.
AQ is one of our favorite record shops...Dave and I buy from
them via mailorder as much as our wallets will allow and so should
you! They have a great staff who truly love all types of music
and take a tremendous amount of time to write reviews of almost
all their products. Many hours have been spent perusing their website and
fighting of the urge to buy everything! Please visit them on the
web or if your in SF go to the store and say hi! Tell 'em Barge
sent ya!
We hope you are enjoying
the change in season....this is my favorite time of year.

Fuckin' hell....I think thats it! Hope your summer is killing.
07.25.2006
New
York has been hot. Our day jobs are sucking the soul straight
out of our eyeballs and our replicater is taking their sweet
time with BRG 001. But enough complaining...the good news is
The Fun Years are hard at work with their debut full length for
Barge Recordings and we couldn't be happier about it. We are
pleased to announce that BRG 002 will be the first non CD-R release
for The Fun Years and the first non various artist release for
Barge. For those of you who are not familiar with The Fun Years,
they are a two piece drone/sound-scape/tone-bender outfit from
the fine city of Boston. They are featured on BRG 001 - INNATURE
and have wowed the few lucky enough to see their rare live performances.
We have yet to decide on a street date for the full-length but
hope to have it hit the shelves before the new year. Also in
the works here at Barge HQ is a 12" series tentively dubbed
Riptide. We are keeping the participants undisclosed for the
time being but we promise you will be as excited as we are about
the prospects. Stay tuned for details on BRG 001, BRG 002 and
the Riptide Series....and stay cool you crazy cats.

Hey
Folks! Dave and I went to see Geoff Mullen perform with James
Blackshaw et al on Wednesday the 28th here in New York City.
It was a dreary, rainy night....but the strange sounds that
emanated from the Tap Room at The Knitting Factory kept our spirits
high. I had never seen Geoff perform before...so the night was
especially satisfying for myself. Monsignor Mullen has a gift...this
is no exaggeration...he executed a mesmerizing set that for me,
stole the evening. In three well crafted pieces, Geoff changed
the way I look at a simple electro-acoustic set-up. He
has a completely non-traditional approach to playing an acoustic
guitar, banjo and a Casio(i could be wrong here) keyboard. These
basic instruments were transformed into some kind of beautiful
battle orchestra from the hinterlands....I'm not sure of any
other way to describe it! I took a few photos that in no way
do justice to the sounds we all enjoyed that evening.

Oh...and by the way...Geoff
has a new full-length coming out on the Last
Visible Dog imprint
that you should certainly look for. I'm sure it will prove to be
a fantastic compliment to the record he recently did for K.F.
Whitman's label
ENTSCHULDIGEN. Mr.
Mullen has been busy...thankfully.
06.15.2006
Ugh.
We apologize...the updates have been scarce. The days here
at camp Barge have been very busy. We are at last finalizing the
art for INNATURE...it looks fantastic! Thanks to our friend Pali
for providing the amazing painting that will grace the cover.
In other news: Animal Hospital is on
a nation-wide tour of the U.S. Tour dates here.
Please make a point of going out to see the mother of all one-man
bands. Kevin "Animal Hospital" Micka is mind-boggling in his live
process...it really is a treat to see him perform.
The
Family Vineyard has released a retrospective of Loren Connors'
singles and rarities. I have yet to hear it, but one would
think it essential for any true fan of Loren's work. Having read
a few reviews that give the 3 CD set a highly positive nod, I
definately want to purchase it for my own collection.
What else...? We have several new projects
in the works. Stay tuned for details....they will prove to be very
exciting and shall willfully catapult Barge Recordings to the top
of the left-ear leaning dung heap that is this vast American musical
landscape....huh?

Hello
folks. The Fun Years will be playing a show on Tuesday April
18th at PA's lounge in Somerville, MA. The performance is the
first installment in a series of live semi-improv electronic
shows called Uppercase Sound. The series aspires to challenge
the notion of genre specific performances, combining DJs, noise,
drone, IDM and whatever
else the curator can muster from the ever eclectic Boston music
scene. Sounds good to us! If you live in the Boston area, try
and make it out....what the hell else are you gonna do on a Tuesday...and
the Fun Years are damn good live.
PA's Lounge is located at 345 Somerville
Ave. in beautiful Somerville Massachusetts. The event starts at
8:30pm.

Update:
BRG 001 has officially been dubbed INNATURE. The track listing
is available in the catalog section. A street date has been
confirmed for September 26th 2006.
Hopefully you were
able to catch Circle whilst they were touring the US. Dave and
I went to the NYC show and they were face-melting as usual. Let's
hope they come back soon.
Animal Hospital is
in the midst of booking a US tour for June. Check animalhospitalmusic.com for details.
I don't know about
you, but I'm ready for some warm weather...this whole in like a
lion, out like a lamb thing is bullshit. What happened to global
warming?!

Barge affiliates Circle will once again be crossing the pond to
unleash their fury upon the New World. If you've not seen
this band live you are not truly awake. Be forewarned, if you see
them once you will be counting the days until they come back to
your town again and all the other bands you see in that time will
seem rather drab in comparison. Here are the dates so that you
may plan accordingly....if it happens to be your mom's birthday,
you may just want to bring her along.

opium pipe, chase the dragon and go out and see some GOOD music

Hi All.
Barge Recordings is pleased to announce the world-wide release of
BRG 001. A compilation of epic proportions bringing together some
of the finest musical talents from the US, Canada and Europe. The
cast will include: Circle, Polmo Polpo, Geoff Mullen, The Fun Years,
Bird Show, Loren MazzaCane Connors, Tim Hecker, The Kallikak Family,
Animal Hospital and MGR. We are ecstatic to be working with such
an amazing group of artists and would like to thank all of them
for their contributions....It's going to be a great record. The
TBD titled compilation will be on store shelves in the Spring of
2006. Please tell your local record store proprietor to order a
handful....it will only reflect poorly upon him/her if it is not
prominently displayed in their establishment.
We are
hard at work here at Barge World HQ. Designers are being "commissioned",
coffee is being gulped, sleep is being lost and girlfriends are
getting "edgy".
Please check
back periodically for updates. This site is still under a constant
state of flux. We are HTML challenged lunk-heads....but we're doing
all we can to make this an enjoyable and educational world-wide
web experience. Feel free to drop us a line with
any questions or comments.
Thanks.
