Happy Holidays everyone! Just a short press update and some other news before the new year.

First off, Barge made a couple year end lists 1.) WZBC/Rare Frequency/Boston Phoenix Susanna Bolle's Top 10 of 2007 list. Thanks for the kind words Susanna! 2.) Armory Radio was included in WFMU's own Acapulco Rodriguez/Acapulco Dance Party Show favorite albums of 2007.....Armory Radio sits among some good company....thanks Acapulco Rodriguez!

Secondly, Geoff Mullen has received some very favorable ink about Armory Radio from our friends at The Wire, Textura, Boomkat and others. You can read those reviews and more here. Geoff also did a short email interview with the Chilean experimental music online zine The Loop. You can read the interview on their site.

Stay tuned for updates on BRG004: the Xela/MGR split LP, BRG005: a brand new and absolutely stunning Fun Years album as well as 2 other possible projects that we are unable to talk about at the moment but are extremely excited and hopeful about. All will be dropping in 2008. In addition, we are pleased to announce that Barge Recordings will be "going digital" in early 2008. You will soon be able to purchase high quality MP3s of the entire Barge catalog from two of our favorite music peddlers, Other Music Digital and Boomkat Digital (for those of you residing in the UK and beyond). Dave and I, being the old codgers that we are, remain skeptical of the MP3 as a viable audio format....but we can't argue with the kids....they demand it....and we intend to deliver.

So, we are looking forward to the new year and hope to continue bringing you, our friends, loyal customers and supporters, the same superior quality audio recordings and adventurous, ground-breaking new music you've come to expect from Barge. We sincerely wish you all the very best in the coming year and hope your holidays are filled with laughter, delicious treats and good spirits all around.

One last thing. We are always curious and eager to hear your ideas on how we can enhance your experience here on our website and also we would like you to let us know if you are having a hard time finding our releases at your local record shop....we are always looking to better our communication with our customers and expand the delivery of our releases to the public. Your suggestions are always encouraged and welcome. Visit the contact page to send us your ideas and comments.

bests,
ian + dave

BRG003 Geoff Mullen's Armory Radio limited edition double LP will be available world-wide on October 9th 2007. We will be taking pre-orders exclusively on the website for 1 month in advance. So, from September 6th until October 6th you have the option of pre-ordering this highly intense and incredibly well crafted composition and receive it on the day of release (international orders may take a bit longer). Remember, there will only be approximately 400 of these double LPs available worldwide through our traditional distribution.....so act fast, I doubt they'll last long.

In other news, we are beginning production on BRG004, a separate but equal venture between Isis guitarist Mike Gallagher's solo outing MGR and Type Label founder John Twell's Xela project. This limited edition LP marks the first in our split series featuring a pairing of some of our favorite artists of the moment. Each side of BRG004 consists of a single epic track composed exclusively for this project by these two disparate musicians. The pieces compliment each other beautifully and make for a unique and challenging 40 minutes of music. More details to come.....stay tuned!

Also, be on the lookout for Barge Recordings' contribution to Wire Tapper 18 which will be included with every issue of the Wire's October 2007 issue.

Hello friends. We have several exciting news bits to report! The limited double LP - Geoff Mullen Armory Radio is in production as I type. Spanning four 33 1/3 rpm sides, Geoff's lengthy body of work is new material combined with reworkings of the original CDR version. Sequenced to take full advantage of the LP format, the pieces ebb and flow naturally, making vinyl the perfect format for this release. Musically, the album's departure from Geoff's The Air In Pieces surprises us once again with his creative diversity and his ongoing search for new sounds. Referencing an old Providence armory in Geoff's neighborhood, Armory Radio is an ode to a specific chunk of time and space, the results of which are breathtaking. More news on BRG 003 to come.

The Fun Years' Life-Sized Psychoses has recently received some fantastic press. The latest issue of the Wire (July 2007; Throbbing Gristle on cover) features a particularly favorable review. With quotes such as "these soundscapes are abstract in a profound and naked way few other recordings achieve"and "A beautiful, blissful abstract album" one can only deduct that Life-Sized Psychoses is indeed "abstract" but in a really good way! Our friends up north at Textura online magazine also feature a nice LSP review in their July issue. Finally, The Boston Phoenix ran a positive review back in late-May awarding LSP 3 out of 4 stars. Check out the press section for a full review and other noteworthy press.

Live News! Geoff Mullen and Loren Connors will be performing at the newly relocated Issue Project Room. Loren will start the night up solo then Geoff will take the stage. See you there!

Busy summer coming up for the Barge camp. Dave and I are currently working on BRG 003 with BRG 004 creeping up gently behind it. BRG 003 promises to be an exciting record on several fronts. First off, the recording will be our first full-length (DOUBLE length actually!) with our friend and incredibly gifted musician Geoff Mullen. Secondly, the record will be a limited edition double LP....Barge's first vinyl release of what we hope to be a format standard. The recordings are simply gorgeous and deserve to be presented in the finest audio format we know of. The double LP is entitled Armory Radio and serves as the foot bridge connecting Geoff's previous output, his debut "thrtysxtrllnmnfstns" on Keith Fullerton Whitman's label Entschuldigen and his latest "Air in Pieces" on the Last Visible Dog imprint. We'll keep you posted on the progress and there should be a street date solidified very soon.

In other news, we have updated the Press section of the site with some of the recent reviews BRG 002 The Fun Years / Life Sized Psychoses has been receiving and we archived the press for BRG001. Also, we have added some audio samples in the Catalog section.

'ello kiddies! The Fun Years CD Release Party has been booked and we are counting the days until we unleash the blissful beauty that is Life-Sized Psychoses unto the world (LSP street date: April 24th 2007...btw). We've even made one of those advent calendars except we've exchanged the chocolates for assorted pills. Anyway, the show will be happening at a venue here in Brooklyn called Monkey Town on Friday April 20th at 10:30pm....so mark your calendars and set your clocks! The bill will consist of two live performances and two/three DJs to compliment the live sets and keep the vibe alive throughout the evening. Geoff Mullen will be warming up the crowd for The Fun Years and the DJ sets will be split up between Montrachet DJ (aka Rubén Sanz Ramiro) and EVR's HA5K (RXRF) + Niall (The Continuous Mammal). Dave put together this fly poster for the show:

BIG NEWS! The Fun Years' debut full length for Barge Recordings is completed and has settled on a release date of April 24th. The album is entitled Life-Sized Psychoses and promises to melt thy fan's face of gorgeously hypnotic post-post rock soundscapes. For those of you with good sense to have purchased a copy of the INNATURE compilation you can expect more of the rich, undulating and evolutionary drone that opened the record. The boys take full advantage of the compact disc format creating a 50 minute composition split into 5 tracks. Life-Sized Psychoses effortlessly blends blissfully repetitive atmospheric textures with stark tumbling baritone guitar phrases. The album builds and releases in an almost song like structure stretched out and sequenced like an opiated dream. Dave and I are ecstatic and honored to be releasing this record and we couldn't be happier that The Fun Years have decided to allow Barge to birth their first non-CDR album.

Tour dates are being scheduled around the release of the record and there will be a special record release event here in New York. More on that later so stay tuned.

I can't think of a more perfect way to start the Spring season.....oh Spring, where art thou old friend....how we miss thee.

Also, we have archived the old 2006 news section here.
